Learning to think Like Jesus
It is our fervent desire to possess what the Bible refers to as the mind of Christ. Simply stated, our aim is to learn to think like Jesus. How that is expressed in our lives is to live in community as people who love God, love others, proclaim the Gospel, and make disciples. Our aim is to humbly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In doing so, equipping the church for the work of the ministry and unleashing people to use their lives for the glory of God.
Our Heritage
We are part of a non-denominational movement called "Calvary Chapel." The beginnings of the Calvary Chapel movement were featured in the film "Jesus Revolution" which told the story of Pastor Chuck Smith, Greg Laurie, and tens-of-thousands of hippies disillusioned with the hippy lifestyle and looking for truth.
An Old Small Church Building with
Big History
Discover the Rich History of Our church facility in Newberg, Oregon. Established as St. Peter's Catholic Church in 1908, this cherished landmark has housed various congregations for over a century. At Calvary Chapel Newberg, we feel incredibly fortunate to display our name on this storied building. Guided by a godly vision, we are dedicated to extending our impact to Newberg and its neighboring areas throughout Yamhill county. Join us in worshiping our God and King at this historic site.
We Focus on Three Things
The Bible
We don't teach topical messages. Instead, we teach verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter, through the entire Bible. We like to say, "We don't teach from the Bible, we teach the Bible."
Worship
Our worship style is simple, and authentic. We bypass distracting lights and noise, and focus on joining in one voice before our Lord in song. Our goal is to draw people to Jesus, rather than to their musical talent.
Relationships
Calvary Chapel of Newberg is all about relationships. We are a small-enough congregation that people are not lost in the crowd. Instead, Calvary Newberg is a place where people can truly experience godly relationships and fellowship.
John Terry
Lead Pastor
Our Pastor
John Terry
John was born into a large family in southern California. After a difficult childhood, at seventeen he left home, emancipated and moved to the northwest, completing high school in Fife, Washington while living on his own. Ten years later while living in Eagle Point, Oregon, at age twenty-seven John gave his life to Christ. Before long it was off to bible college where he attended Calvary Chapel Bible School at Twin Peaks, California. After college, John spent nearly twenty years serving the Lord at a small Calvary Chapel church in Northern California, dividing his time between family, ministry, and a career in the outdoor advertising industry.
In the years since, John has continued to have a growing passion for studying and teaching God’s Word – and a love for God’s people. He served in various pastoral capacities at several churches until he and his wife Stacey were called to Calvary Chapel Newberg in late 2017 where John serves as senior pastor.
